I have come to notice and with great concern asked my self what is this posting that most of my friends have been updating on their status.
The whole status is revoling the same story of a girl who took her life afther seeng what her father posted on facebook about her,the problem though is when you want to view this post.
The requiremen to view is to follow some steps in which you are required to 'Allow' or 'not to allow' access the informatiom in your account.
My concern though is why are you required to 'allow' such information to share your account while you are to view the supposed wall post?is it a threat to your computer/phone that when you "allow" you are allowing a virus into your computer or phone?
I sough some answers from individuals on this all controvasial question and these ar what they said.
Reader had these:
Reader 1 -Not a virus, no. What it is: A script
which exploits a vulnerability
primarily in Facebook APIs
(” Facebook Connect”) and those
of other social networks, as well
as news sites and others which
allow both public postings and
connections to be made between
users/friends. It hijacks the
unsecured http sessions. It
searches and retrieves shared
contact info – email addresses
and phone numbers – for future
attacks and for sale to attackers:
spammers, botherders, and other
criminal entities. So you can
dismiss warnings about this if
you ’re only looking for viruses.
Bro clearly has a clue.
Reader 2 said "I don’t know where you’re
getting your information, but
none of the reports I ’ve seen say
that the script “searches and
retrieves shared contact info –
email addresses and phone
numbers. ” What’s true is that the
hoax has morphed into a
clickjacking scam, the purpose of
which is to make money by
diverting clicks to survey sites.
He futher said that
The Facebook Pages and App
Pages that we ’re talking about
are HTTP Service exploits which
reveal an unsecured user ’s
contact information and that of
their “connected” associates
(friends) who are likewise
connected insecurely. Some of
them, increasingly, forward to
fake-Facebook pages which are
not merely clickthrough-revenue
generators at all, but which
EITHER 1) Promote links to the
fraudulent FB page (via “liking”
and the Facebook Connect API)
OR 2) invisibly load the code from
Facebook which hijacks the HTTP
session.
New domains for this purpose
have cropped up dramatically in
the last several days including, I
believe,
bypassfacebookfanpages.com.."
Another reader says:
a friend had this posted on
her FB status so and wanted to
check it out it says its an
application that you have to
allow access to your account. Its
specifically asked her for permissions
to log in to continually run
change information etc.,she futher say that All in
all,there is NO REASON this
application needs any of those
permissions! As far as I know it
does seem fishy!
I am lost for real over this,is it an Hoax just like the Red call or a real security warning?
